The project consisted of re-thatching the existing roof, carrying out timber repairs to the roof structures, as well as masonry repairs to the external walls.
The existing thatch was stripped off to allow for timber repairs to the existing roof structure from new oak and then re-thatched.
In addition to the thatching works, our skilled bricklayers carried out flint repairs to the porch using knapped flints and lime mortar. They also carried out specialist repairs to the cob walls (a natural material made up from clay, sand, straw and water) with the use of slaked lime.
This project was awarded the English Heritage Angel Award upon completion for ‘Best Rescue or Repair of a Place of Worship’.
